Murine and Human Lupus Nephritis: Pathogenic Mechanisms and Theoretical Strategies for Therapy
2015, Seminars in NephrologyCitation Excerpt :Given the fact that nephritis is a serious manifestation of SLE,7,40,41,53 it is important to determine by which pathways anti-dsDNA antibodies act as pathogenic factors. Parameters that historically have been regarded as important in determining the nephrogenicity of anti-dsDNA antibody subpopulations are antibody avidity for DNA, specificity for unique DNA or nucleosomal structures,31,32,54–57 as well as cross-reactivity with inherent renal or non-nucleosomal DNA molecules.23,24,27,58–62 The murine data were reviewed recently.2,7,63
A passion for parasites
2014, Journal of Biological ChemistryCitation Excerpt :Jack Griffith (University of North Carolina) prepared marvelous electron micrographs of this and other bent fragments. The linear 200-bp fragment looked like a circle, and this micrograph appeared on the cover of Cell (43). About fifteen years ago (circa 2000), I was at the Parasitology Gordon Conference held at a small prep school in New Hampshire.
Many ways to loop DNA
2013, Journal of Biological ChemistrySequence-dependent collective properties of DNAs and their role in biological systems
2013, Physics of Life ReviewsCitation Excerpt :In addition, the negative tangential component on the contact surface with DNA produces a force that should decrease the curvature. In fact, as theoretically expected, the curvature modulus obtained by the statistical analysis of the AFM images is reduced compared with that measured by electron microscopy images [41]. In spite of its simplicity, such a model accounts for the preferential binding of one of the opposite prochiral faces of curved DNAs observed on mica crystal surfaces as a manifestation of the presence of a periodical component with the B-DNA periodicity in the distribution of the base pairs electrostatic field along the sequence.
